Frank Stockton was born April 5, 1834 in Philadelphia, PA, and died April 16, 1902 in Washington, D.C. He was a wood engraver, editor, and author of short stories and novels for children and adults, known for his humor and irony. He is perhaps best known for his short story, The Lady or the Tiger?
